How much does the In Altum Program cost?
Participants are required to pay a registration fee of $399 to cover the program itself (detailed in the 'What's Included' question below).
It's important to note that the actual cost of running In Altum exceeds $800 per participant. This reduced fee is possible thanks to our generous donors who believe in our mission, allowing us to offer this enriching experience for less than half the actual cost.
What does the In Altum Program include?
The program includes:
Accommodation for 5 nights/6 days
Most meals, specifically breakfasts and lunches
All program activities, such as lectures, discussions, and visits to organizations, including attractions with free entry
It does not include:
Flights to Washington D.C.
Transportation within D.C. (public transit is easily available and convenient)
Dinners (evenings are free for participants to socialize and explore the city)
Tickets to museums and other paid attractions
It means that the In Altum Program will provide housing for 5 nights. Housing is provided in the DC metro area near the metro so as to facilitate mobility. Usually, in university dormitory-style accommodations or in conference-style hotel space downtown. Participants share rooms following our spirit of frugality.
What does it mean that the In Altum Program provides accommodation?
We place great emphasis on delivering a comprehensive analysis of contemporary social issues through the lens of our Catholic faith. Our speakers are diverse professionals, each with unique experiences and backgrounds. Past sessions have included interactions with a wide range of experts, including senators, educators, CEOs, policy makers, finance specialists, and researchers from various think tanks, among others.

Before the Program
Prepare for the Program: If accepted, you'll need to complete 4–6 hours of study covering basic Catholic thought, teachings, facts about today’s Church, and key Church initiatives. This preparation ensures everyone starts with a shared foundation. The quiz is designed to be easy to pass if you dedicate 4–6 hours of study to it. However, if you only spend 1–2 hours, you will likely fail and need to retake it before the program.
During the Program
Volunteer: Dedicate one hour to volunteer during the program. This helps support the program's activities and contributes to its success.
Participate in All Activities: Engage fully in all scheduled events and sessions to gain the most from the experience.
Be Punctual: Arrive on time for all activities and sessions to maintain the schedule and respect the time of all participants and organizers.
What is expected from participants before and during the program?
What does it mean that In Altum is a Catholic program?
It means, that at its core, the In Altum Program desires to permeate all layers of society with Christ’s message and to explore the Catholic intellectual tradition and social teaching emanating from it.
What are we looking for in our participants?
There’s no such thing as a typical IAP participant, however, there are elements we look for in every application:
Faith-Driven: Committed to integrating the Catholic faith in daily life.
Excellence in Academia or Profession: Demonstrated high achievements in academic or professional fields, with a strong sense of community and intellectual curiosity.
Very High Level of English: Possessing a high level of English for effective communication and engagement.
Age and Background: Men and women aged 20-30 from diverse countries and backgrounds.
How good should my English be in order to participate?
We expect participants to have a very strong grasp of the English language. English level is assessed during the interview portion of our application. When in doubt, we recommend applying.
In Altum does not request TOEFL or IELTS certifications.
Do participants need a Visa?
Each government has its own VISA policy, which serves a purpose that is specific to the country’s needs and its relations with other countries. In order to know if there is a VISA requirement, participants need to check if the U.S Government requires citizens from their country to obtain one. Each participant is responsible for handling their own VISA process.
In Altum does not sponsor student VISAS. In Altum is able to provide an acceptance letter that confirms participation to the program.
Is there a dress code?
Yes, we require business professional attire for most occasions. Male participants must wear a suit and tie. During the weekend, business casual attire is permitted.
Regardless of the weather, we insist on this dress code to maintain a serious and respectful atmosphere throughout the program. Your adherence to this standard helps ensure a professional and cohesive environment.
Is the registration fee refundable? Can I transfer to a next summer session?
No, our registration fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable.
